# Project Fields

> What each Project field means, whether it copies to new Orders, and where it appears.

Set a field once on the [Project](/concepts/orders-projects.md) and it follows the work: onto each Order, the Driver's screen, and your PDFs. This page shows where each field goes, so you know what your team, your Customers, and your Drivers will see.

## PO, Order ID, and Project ID

Four numbers get mixed up often. Each one lives in a different place.

| Number | Where it lives | What other screens call it |
| - | - | - |
| **Order PO** | Project, then copied to each Order | "Order PO" (the Order's own copy) |
| **Order ID** (ORD-…) | Order only. Tread creates it. | Shown without a label on Order cards; "Ord. ID" on Order details |
| **Project #** (PROJ-…) | Project only. Tread creates it. | Not shown |
| **Project External ID** | Project only. You enter it. | "Project Ext ID" on Order cards; "Project ID" on the Order form, the Job Card PDF, and the Driver app |

> [!NOTE]
>
> The Project's **Order PO** is a starting value. When you create an Order, Tread copies it only if the Order's PO is empty. After that, the Order keeps its own copy. Changing the Project's PO later doesn't change existing Orders.

## How fields copy to Orders

A Project works like a template for its Orders. The **Copies to Orders** column in each table below uses these values:

| Value | What happens |
| - | - |
| **Yes** | Copied onto each new Order. |
| **Yes, and updates** | Copied onto each new Order. Later Project edits also update open Orders that still have the old value. |
| **Web only** | Copied only when you create the Order in the web app's Order form. |
| **No** | Stays on the Project. |

> [!WARNING]
>
> Orders created through an import or the API don't get the **Web only** fields. These are the Order PO, Charge to Account, Service Class, Driver and Internal notes, Contacts, Sites, Ordered Quantity and Unit, Units, Running, and Truck Capacity. Add them in your import file if your team needs them.
>
> Imports also set their own Number of Trucks, assigned users, and Order name, so they don't use the Project's.

## Identifiers

## What Drivers don't see

The Driver app never shows these fields:

* Project and Internal notes
* Contract No.
* The Project's own Order PO (Drivers see the Order's copy)
* Project # (PROJ-123)

## Common pitfalls

* **An Order shows an old PO.** The Order kept its own copy. Edit the PO on the Order, not the Project.
* **A Customer asks for their "Project ID".** They usually mean the **Project External ID**, not the PROJ number.
* **Imported Orders are missing notes or contacts.** Imports skip the **Web only** fields. Add them to the import file.
* **A field is missing from your form.** Some fields only show if they're turned on for your company. These include **Contract No.**, **Service Class**, **Ticket Chaser**, **Enable Live ETA**, and **Default digital ticket view for drivers**. Ask your Tread contact.
