# Paver Tracker

> Connect live paver position to drive moving geofences on paving orders.

Tread reads live paver position from Paver Tracker to drive [moving geofences](/specialized/paving-geofences). A moving geofence is a [geofence](/concepts/sites-geofences) — a virtual fence around a site — that follows the paver as the work advances. Use it on linear paving jobs where a static geofence does not cover the work. Arrive and depart events stay aligned with the work, with no manual site edits.

## Prerequisites

* A Paver Tracker connection on your account. Tread configures the connection and the paver list for you — there is no self-serve credential entry.
* Each paving [project's](/concepts/orders-projects) **External ID** matches the job ID in Paver Tracker.
* **Sync sites from telematics (PaverTracker)** turned on for each order that should follow a paver.

## How it works

1. **Daily match** — Tread reads the day's Paver Tracker report and matches it to your projects by External ID. If one project runs several crews, Tread also matches each order by foreman name.
2. **Equipment sync** — Tread creates an [equipment](/concepts/equipment) record for each paver, named after the vehicle in Paver Tracker. Name changes sync automatically.
3. **Site creation** — On each matched order, Tread attaches a Daily site with a moving geofence tied to the paver's equipment record. Milling equipment becomes the pickup site; other equipment becomes the drop-off site.
4. **Position polling** — About once a minute during active work, Tread polls the paver's position and moves the site and its geofence to match.
5. **Swap handling** — If Paver Tracker reports a different paver on the work, Tread re-points the moving geofence to the new equipment automatically.

## What flows where

## Setup

    On each paving project, set **External ID** to the job ID used in Paver Tracker.

    On each order that should follow a paver, turn on **Sync sites from telematics (PaverTracker)**.

  <Step title="Confirm the geofence moves">
    Watch the map as the paver moves. The geofence should follow within about a minute.

## Limitations

* When sync is on, Paver Tracker can attach or move Daily sites on the order. A manually selected drop-off site can be overwritten — turn sync off on that order to keep it.
* Position is polled, not streamed. Expect up to a minute of lag.
* If Paver Tracker has no recent position fix, the geofence stays at its last position.

## Troubleshooting

**Geofence not moving with the paver**

1. Confirm **Sync sites from telematics (PaverTracker)** is on for the order.
2. Confirm the project's **External ID** matches the job ID in Paver Tracker.
3. Check Paver Tracker for a recent position fix on the paver.

**Order not matched to a paver**

1. Confirm the project's External ID.
2. If the project runs several crews, confirm the order's foreman name matches the name in Paver Tracker.
