# Driver E-Signatures

> Capture signatures on shifts, jobs, and loads.

## When to use this

Use e-signatures when you need a sign-off as proof — for billing disputes, hours verification, or customer delivery confirmation. Most useful on time-and-material work, prevailing-wage jobs, and any customer that demands a signed manifest.

## How it works

Signatures are captured in the [Driver App](/mobile/driver-app) and attach to a load, a job, or a shift. There are two signature types.

Each signature is stored with the signer's name and phone, the time, and the GPS position where it was captured. Signatures show up alongside the load, job, or shift record for the office to review.

## Setup

  <Step title="Ask Tread to turn on shift sign-off">
    The end-of-shift driver signature is enabled per company by Tread — contact your Tread representative. Once on, a driver must sign to stop logging their shift, acknowledging that their hours are correct and that they were not injured during the shift.

  <Step title="Use digital tickets for dropoff signatures">
    Dropoff signatures ride along with [digital tickets](/specialized/digital-tickets). When a load uses a digital ticket, the Driver App prompts the driver to collect the receiver's signature before saving or completing the load.

  <Step title="Brief the drivers">
    Drivers will see a sign-here screen at the end of the shift and on digital-ticket loads. A 30-second walkthrough on day one prevents support tickets.

## Common pitfalls

<Warning>
  **A signature is not an approval.** A signed shift still has to clear the office approval queue. Don't tell customers "the driver signed, so it's billable" — billing leads still review.

  **Shift sign-off blocks the driver from stopping.** Once enabled, a driver cannot end their shift without signing. Tell drivers before it goes live — a driver stuck at end of day generates a support call.
