Job splitting lets a vendor divide one job into several smaller ones. The vendor manages their own truck count and load split, and you never have to edit the order for them.
Say you order 110 loads of slag cement and split it across three vendors — 70 loads, 30, and 10. The vendor holding 70 loads can break that job into 15 jobs, one per truck, on their own.
Don’t see the checkboxes below? Job splitting is a per-account feature. Email support@tread.io to have it turned on.
Part 1: Set it up as the order creator
Two things have to be switched on — the vendor’s account, and the order itself.
Turn on splitting for the vendor
Open Settings → Vendors and click the pencil icon
Find the vendor, then open Update Account.
Check Allow vendor to split jobs under Account Configuration
The tooltip spells out what it grants: the vendor can edit their own job count. Click Save
This vendor can now split any job you send from an order that also allows it.
Create the order
Add the material, ordered quantity, and unit of measure
Recommended, so the order totals read correctly.
Under Trucks, set the number of trucks and set Units to Load
Each truck is one job. Quantity can stay at 1 — you set the real load counts in the next step.
Check Allow vendors to split jobs, then create the order
Miss this box and the vendor sees no Split Job action, even with their account setting on.
Set the loads on each job
Click Bulk Edit
Faster than editing each job row by hand.
Set the load quantity per job, then Save
A job’s requested load count caps at 50. Without job splitting enabled the cap is 25. This limits the loads Tread creates up front — loads added by hand or created automatically later are not capped.
Dispatch to the vendors
Assign a vendor to each job, then click Send
Part 2: Split a job as the vendor
You received one job for 50 loads and want five jobs, one per truck.
Open Dispatch → Orders and click Accept on the job
A job you haven’t accepted can’t be split yet.
Click the ••• icon on the job row, then Split Job
Set the number of jobs and the loads on each
The dialog shows the job’s total requested quantity. Distribute Evenly splits the loads for you. Watch Remaining — it reads Fully allocated when the numbers balance. Click Split
Tread creates the new jobs. Accept them to carry on dispatching.
You can split a job again after the first split, using the same Split Job action.
Let us show you how:
Skip the Accept step
Turn on auto-accept and new jobs arrive ready to dispatch.
Open Settings → Customers and click the pencil icon on the customer
Scroll to Account Configuration.
Set Auto-Accept Jobs to Yes, then Save
Common pitfalls
The vendor has no Split Job action. Both switches are required — Allow vendor to split jobs on their account and Allow vendors to split jobs on the order. An order created before you ticked the account setting still won’t allow splitting.
Units aren’t set to Load. Splitting divides a load count. Set Units to Load on the order’s Trucks section before you dispatch.
