What you’ll do

Add every driver you dispatch — internal employees and Owner-Operators (O&Os) on your own roster.

Before you start

  • A driver list with name, mobile phone, license info, and assigned truck (if any).
  • Decide whether each driver is internal (employee) or an O&O (Owner-Operator — a driver who owns their own truck and works for you).
  • Drivers belonging to a third-party hauling company are added through that Vendor, not here.

Walkthrough

Open Settings → Drivers

Click Add Driver.

Fill in driver details

Enter name, mobile phone, and email. Phone must be unique. Mark as Internal or O&O.

Assign default equipment

Pick the truck the driver usually runs. The driver app pre-selects it on shift start. You can override per shift.

Set the Ext. ID (optional)

Paste the payroll or accounting system identifier if you settle drivers through an integration.

Send the driver app invite

The driver receives an SMS link to install the Tread driver app and log in.

Verify

Settings → Drivers shows every driver as Active. Each driver who has logged into the app shows a recent Last seen timestamp.

Common mistakes

Deleting a driver who’s leaving. Deletion locks the phone number — you can’t reuse it for the replacement, and you lose history. Deactivate the driver instead. Reactivate or wipe the number through support if the driver returns.
